The 10th of July 2025
was the day when Tolopo Primary School, a remote school from the outskirts of
Aroma Coast, Abau District, Central Province, made history for the very first
time. The school organized an educational trip for the very first time in the
history of the school—and its destination was Port Moresby Nature Park.
With the assistance
and support of Pathways Network PNG (PNPNG), fifty enthusiastic students from
Grades 7 and 8, along with their dedicated teachers, took part in the program.
The field trip was part of their science syllabus and served as a complement to
the educational theme of the Nature Park, “Explore, Discover and Educate.”
The outing offered a
rich first-hand learning experience, the chance to explore and engage
personally with the rich plant and animal diversity in the park. It was a first-time experience for most of witnessing such diversity, so hence the day was
memorable and transformative.
After over three hours
of journey to reach the capital city, the students left not only with new
knowledge but also more thankful for Papua New Guinea’s bountiful natural
heritage. The day was a celebration of learning beyond classrooms and a
worthwhile reminder of the importance of inclusive learning opportunities for
rural schools.
