To mark Papua New Guinea’s 50th Anniversary of Independence, Port Moresby Nature Park partnered with the American Chamber of Commerce Coral Sea (AmCham) on a worthy community initiative—a tree planting activity on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at Rearea Junior High School in Lealea Village.

This campaign gathered the members of AmCham with employees from ten organizations bonded by their shared dream to save the environment. The team together planted 50 saplings, each representing PNG’s independence for 50 years and one step towards fighting climate change.

The ceremony not only celebrated PNG’s rich history but also underscored the need for effective climate action. Every tree planted is a living vow to future generations—a commitment to preserve biodiversity, reduce carbon levels, and create a healthier world.

Nature Park is happy to carry on its role in awareness of environmental issues through action-oriented community participation. This project with AmCham Coral Sea is a fine illustration of the power of partnerships in good impact making and fostering sustainability at all levels of society.

As we reflect on this milestone, we call on all Papua New Guineans to consider how they can make a contribution towards environmental protection within their own communities. Every effort, however small or large, counts towards making a greener and more resilient future.
