Port Moresby Nature Park is also going beyond entertainment by using
game design to educate individuals about threatened animals. Individuals learn
about such rare creatures as the Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo and the Pig-nosed
Turtle through crosswords, scavenger hunts, and quizzes.
For Esther Hulum, such creatures are purposely put in the spotlight so
that humans can be aware of the threats they face. “By putting them in quizzes
and scavenger hunts, we make visitors learn about the challenges the animal is
facing and why conservation is so crucial,” she explained.
The Cassowary and Tree Kangaroo, though, possess the greatest capacity
to produce the most excitement among players, and so the games not only are
enjoyable but also successful in conveying conservation messages.
